It doesn’t get any better than best-in-class, and that designation belongs to the base 3.6L Pentastar engine in the Ram 1500 Tradesman. Receive 205 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque and also up to 90 lb-ft of launch Torque thanks to the eTorque mild hybrid system.
The 4.3L engine on the Silverado 1500 WT commands decent power, edging out the base Ram engine in Torque, but losing the horsepower battle. Notable standard features on the Silverado 1500 WT include StabiliTrak (Electronic Stability Control System), 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility. Overall, the Tradesman’s standard technology features a backup camera, Electric Stability Control with Ready Alert Braking, Rain Brake Support, Hill Start Assist, Traction Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation and Trailer Sway Control. Though the Silverado 1500 WT comes in at a lower starting price, the Tradesman technology and power show why it’s worth every penny.

Engine Performance & Capability

If you’re looking for more than an edge on the road and truly unbeatable power, look to the top-level TRX trim on the 2022 Ram 1500 for best-in-class horsepower and torque. The TRX features a 6.2L Supercharged HEMI V8, which other top-level engines in the segment struggle to keep up with. Blow the competition away with 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Though we do agree that the EcoTec3 V8 on the Silverado 1500 High Country has great power and capability, the 1500 TRX is truly a cut above. Add in that the 1500 TRX has specially designed 35-inch all-terrain tires, the first ever launch control in a Ram 1500, and the largest airbox in its class, and you’ll start to see why the 1500 TRX earned every ounce of recognition it has received.

Exterior & Interior Design

Ram 1500

Nothing is as diverse as the trim lineup across the 2022 Ram 1500. Whether you’re looking to focus on work, play, and any bit in between, you’re able to explore numerous options. Both the Tradesman and Big Horn models are suitable for entry-level work trucks, durable while offering enough luxurious features to push them above the competition. Choose the blacked-out Sport model, or the 4×4 savvy Rebel if you’re looking to not only turn heads but indulge in a legendary performance. Of course for the pinnacle of luxury, look to Laramie, Limited, and Limited Longhorn trim levels. If that wasn’t enough, you can always look to the truck of the year itself, the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX for a one of a kind look and experience.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Though the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers diversity through its own trim level lineup, it’s difficult to compete with the lineup of the Ram 1500. The Silverado 1500 does offer a classic, masculine truck look and clean styling, the design level is not the same. Scrolling through the available trim levels doesn’t offer the same level of creativity and freedom achieved from the trims and design of the Ram 1500. Even at the very top of the trims with the Silverado High Country, though the features and capability feel premium, the design falls short and feels bland.

Ram 1500 Vs. Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Verdict

No matter if you’re looking at an entry level work truck, or the very best iteration of the 2022 Ram 1500, the TRX, you’re going to receive a best-in-class designation somewhere along the line. From offering superior performance, plenty of luxurious options, and so much more, it’s easy to see why the Ram 1500 has threepeated as MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year winner. Though the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a worthy opponent, it’s still a ways off of ascending to the level of the Ram.
